OMG its HUGE...

IT arrived today. I knew the the RHB5-VF8 was a big turbo, but HOLY FUCKING SHIT BATMAN this is insane! YEs, that is a full-size CD, not a CD-single. If my transmission ever breaks I could just point the outlet backwards and use it as a jet engine. I'm hoping to keep my existing exhaust turbine housing, as then I wont have to make up a new O2 housing and manifold flange adapter, but that will depend on my existing housing mating nicely with the turbine wheel on this turbo.
Excited about new toys. Afraid I'm turning into a boy racer. Complete with bad taste in cars.

*blink*
Uh.....for those of us not motorally or mechanically inclined, could you dumb that down a bit? :-)

It's fascinating because depending on whether the engine is in lean-burn, stoichiometric or high-output mode, the timing of the fuel injection varies. In lean-burn, it's near the end of the compression phase. Up until this engine, the best lean-burns could only go to about 40:1 air/fuel ratio, but this one goes 65:1. ;) In the other two modes, it's during the intake phase, though as I recall even there the timing is somewhat different.

I dont trust it though ;-)

This bike, however, should keep you amused:

Honda knows more about gasoline internal combustion than any other company in the world. Who else makes everything from garden trimmers to 4 litre V-6es, and everything in between? :)

Really now, you worry me. Next thing you'll be building stuff out of wood and watching football.

Even if I cant use my existing exhaust, this turbo is off a 2.0 Subaru , which has very similar engine characteristics to the Piazza 2.0.
I just hope it doesnt hit the wheelarch!

How much boost do you expect to run on it?
(A/R?)

The stock Piazza Turbo engine, with its forged crank and rods, is good for 12psi. Add forged pistons and you can run 15psi as long as you use good petrol, although the electronic wastegate controller will reduce the boost if knocking is detected. 12psi yields a good 260hp, which is PLENTY for a short wheelbase RWD with all the weight in the front...
A/R= ratio of exhaust inlet area to radius from centre of turbine. Defines how much torque the turbine will see from any particular gas speed. With a bigger compressor side, the lag will increase a bit, but Piazzas never had lag anyway.

Got intercooling?
And you do recall me putting my hand up for a white knuckle ride? :)

White knuckle rides all round I think, however I need to find a good large workshop for a couple of months to complete the bodywork in... Know anyone?

Good-oh!

Sorting out workshops is not really in my area of expertise.
Anything more complicated than replacing a bulb or fixing a loose central locking actuator involves me paying Toyota to do it, and they're pretty easy to find :)
