loathing

Just got back from Urge: lovely dark and seedy bar. Good things at Urge:

-Flirtatious barman cracking jokes
-Woofy doorman wanting to engage in watersports
-Cute little CJ snogging my face off
-Astonishingly well-hung and rather attractive gentleman trying to pick me up
-DJ who wants to chat about the latest thing he's heard that I might like
-Swarthy Eastern European lad cruising me relentlessly
-Beer from Larry
-Friendly chatting with little Ted

What an awesome night it should have been! But no. Cold dark weather, a late night last night, all my favourite friends away in Melbourne and $15 in my pocket conspired to deck me with a sudden, unexpected and utterly relentless dose of depression. I'm not horny, my house is a shithole of epic proportions, and I needed to go home before it got so bad I damaged myself. In the end I just expressed my frustration through the medium of tyre smoke: parallel black stripes through the carpark and around the corner.

How about some company for your misery?

This weekend I'm care-taking my dad, who had a stroke a while back. I'm glad to do it, but I/we are rather housebound for the weekend. Meanwhile...

My road-warrior hubby is finally back in town. But he's at our place while I'm here.

Today, we were supposed to ride the motorcycles out to Napa for a brunch and wine tasting. There, we would have sampled fine wines with the likes of [livejournal.com profile] bearsgonewild, [livejournal.com profile] drewbearsf, [livejournal.com profile] f8n_begorra, [livejournal.com profile] grassvalleybear and [livejournal.com profile] whiskerfish.

Tomorrow, all those folk and [livejournal.com profile] gerardwing, and [livejournal.com profile] glovercom, and just about everyone I've ever met will be an hour away at the San Francisco Pride festivities. And I'll be here in my folks' house...

Don't get me wrong. I love my dad, and it's my pleasure to look after him--which I don't do enough. But it is tough sometimes to look out the window at this sunny California day and imagine the weekend that might have been.

You'll have more opportunities to hang out with friends than you will with your dad... big hugs to ya though.

Thanks. I really didn't mean that to sound unappreciative of the time I have with Dad. Just some lament that I'm not always the son I could/should be.

It really was a good weekend. I took Dad to see "Mr. & Mrs. Smith". Dad got to ogle Angelina Jolie. I got to ogle Brad Pitt*. Some dad-son bonding, and the best minivan chase scene ever!

(*Pitt's generally a little too "pretty" for my tastes, but he'll do in a pinch. [g])
