Suckitude!

Damn exchange rate... the $US is rising against the $NZ again, grrr... I just ordered US$550 and it cost me NZ$800. Ouch!!!

Remind me to use my Visa card as much as possible... Actually thats a thought, is it best to use cash or credit cards for everyday purchases in the US?

ACK!!!

When traveling abroad NEVER buy money before you leave - its way more expensive (rip off actually!) and it will bite you in the ass when it comes to fluctuation. Use your card (ATM, Debit, or Credit) - each transaction will fluctuate as the exchange rate does. If you *must* exchange cash, do it at your destination. XO - Erich

This indeed was true until recently, but now some US visa and MC franchises are taking a percentage foreign transaction fee. And it's not cheap. A total rip-off, but banks get everything they want from Washington.

The problem is that with the upcoming election in NZ, the exchange rate is falling and will continue to do so up until the elction, which is at the end of my stay in the US. Best to exchange *now* and avoid the upcoming crap exchange rates...
