Jan. 27th, 2006 12:20 pmAuckland anniversary weekend is the first in a string of long weekends at this time of year, and I'm looking forward to the coming short week. Paul and Alan are taking advantage of the extra day off to have a big weekend at Urge- Sunday night is sportswear and lycra night, but tonight is leather night.
I helped Paul set up last night- the bar now sports a set of stocks, a camouflage-net covered sling cage (with sling), and a couple of chains which are securely attached to the wall. Which is NOT where they started...
There were a couple of hefty eyes on the ceiling, and so we bolted the chains onto those. Larry had assured Paul that they were quite secure, but as I bolted the chains up I noticed that they were screwed into something that looked suspiciously like plasterboard... a couple of experimental swings later I was just about clobbered as the chain crashed to the ground. It turns out the eyes *were* screwed into nothing more than plasterboard. They're now screwed into the big wooden pelmet above the fireplace and Loren has climbed them, so we're fairly confident that they wont come down in the middle of the flogging demonstration.
It's going to be an interesting night, and I think I'm just a little grateful that I'll be safely behind the bar, dressed in sturdy leather pants. And maybe some sort of leather armband thingy. Though I do forget which side its supposed to go on...
