Jun. 10th, 2006 01:28 pmThe wedding was great, but what I enjoyed most was getting to drive Erich the length of the north island and giving him the chance to see some of the country. Well, as much a you could see through the rain and dark. Come to think of it, as soon as it got dark on the way to Wellington Erich fell aslepp and stayed asleep until we reached the hotel. I didnt mind, his snoring kept me alert, and being asleep he missed seeing the squished cow and caved-in truck that hit it. Not pretty (but I craved steak for an hour afterwards).
The hotel in Wellington was really nice- we had a suite, bottle of bubbly, and a discounted breakfast deal, all for $150 (I love Wotif.com). They made their money up in the restaurant though.. ouch!
The next day dawned bright and early- but we didnt. During the night the wind started up and blew the hotel so hard it sounded like a ship, squeaking and creaking and threatening to capsize. All very romantic, except that we weren't in a ship, and every time I dozed off *crack!* would go the ceiling. Grr.
The drive to Martinborough was lovely, up and over the Rimutakas, leaving the windy city and motorway well behind us. It even snowed on us as we drove over, a rare event. The scenery was pretty enough that Erich stayed awake the whole way, but maybe that was due to my technique for getting something approximating performance out of the mighty Cefiro: switch off overdrive, lock the 'box into 3rd, and let it whizz through the wet, icy twisties at 5000rpm. Sorry Mum!
In other news, I'm at work today. Very VERY sore head, left Erich asleep on the couch, and I really want to go home. Poor me. Its all my own fault as well, I just hope Erich isnt too mad at me!
