Speed Racer

Speed Racer- WTF? A kids cartoon, a bad kids cartoon at that, remade into a cheesy, stupid, over the top movie? What kind of idiot would even watch it, let alone enjoy it?

I wanted to hate it, and for the first half hour I almost did. But once we hit the car races and fight sequences I couldnt help it- this thing is totally awesome. The camerawork, blown out colours, and insane manga/music video editing and effects make for a thrilling ride. At times it was hard to tell if I was excited by the tension or just having a seizure, but whatever it was it was fun.

While watching it I gave the acing the benefit of the doubt- wooden, cheesy, and obviously intended to be that way, just like the cartoon. But it just occurred to me that the acting in the Matrix was pretty similar, so it might just be that the Wachowskis cant direct actors for shit.
