Brian bought me toolboxes for christmas! Big, manly toolboxes that stack and keep everything nice and tidy. Woohoo!!

This meant going through my old, broken, mismatching toolboxes and sorting out all my tools. I had a great time, especially when I got to the box full of add and specialist tools. Like these:

A spot-weld cutter. IT goes in a power drill. The spike in the middle is spring-loaded, you simply center it on the spot weld, push in, and let the blade cut through the top layer of sheetmetal right around the spot weld.

They're stupidly expensive for such a tiny tool, but made restoring the Austin-Healey so much easier than it would have been if I was drilling through spotwelds.

This is my favourite wee device- it's a spark plug with a glass insert.

When it's installed in an engine you can see what colour the flame is burning- yellow is rich, whitish-blue is lean. Perfect is a gas flame blue with flecks of orange. It's incredibly easy, and was really useful before the invention of fuel injection. It's still handy for diagnosing odd problems.
