Whatipu

We walked up the ridge and along the top, a hike they alleged would take 3 hours- it took us barely 2. The walk back along the beach, though, was a killer. Four hours of slow slog. Soft sand is NOT my friend.











Brian found a jellyfish, and found it fascinating. He prodded it and dropped sand on it to make it move. Later int he walk we found a bluebottle whose flotation sac was still moving- I had to point out to Brian to walk past on the opposite side to the stingers.

It's adorable, though I find it hard to imagine what it must be like to grow up without living by an ocean.
