Dear Mr Obama:
Aug. 22nd, 2009 01:39 pmI really feel for you right now, with your healthcare reforms being unfairly and dishonestly opposed.
I know exactly what it feels like to support a cause that would bring relief to an unfairly disadvantaged minority while leaving the majority largely unchanged, only to have the issue inflamed by well-funded opponents who will lie and cheat to discredit it.
I mean, universal healthcare is obvious. You can't rebuild a country on the backs of a sick and struggling majority. Providing healthcare to the disenfranchised will lessen the divide between the haves and the have-nots. Social stability and productivity come from giving everyone more equal opportunities.
Basically, Health reform is desirable because it increases equality.
Now where have I heard that argument before?
It seems to me that suggesting "Death panels" is tactically similar to suggesting that "Churches will be forced to perform gay marriages" and "Gay sex will be taught to your children".
I know what it feels like to be personally effected by hysterical lies and misinformation. I hope that Mr Obama remembers what this feels like, and thinks about it next time a gay rights debate springs up.
