In a funny way your suggestion is quite correct: My preferred brands of laptop, based purely on the engineering integrity and attention to detail (because software can be replaced) are Fujitsu, Toshiba, and Asus. And I believe Asus are the manufacturers of the Powerbook... so yes, I should have bought a properly-engineered machine from a reputable maufacturer, and not been swayed by a high spec wrapped in a cheap box.
