NEW TOYS!!

I've been vaguely looking for a replacement for the sprite, something small, nimble, and fun. One of the cars I've had in mind has been a Mk1 MR2, though I've always been aware that the standard version isnt really worth owning. Sure it's fun and fast, but in terms of resale value the ONLY MR2 to get is the Mk1 jap-spec supercharged edition, and there's about 4 of them in NZ.

And one of them is now mine.

0-100kph in 6.5 seconds. Handling that would put a go-kart to shame. Light, precise, responsive, it's even economical when I resist the seductive 'supercharger on' light in the dashboard. The only computers in it are concerned with making the engine run as well as possible: no traction control, ABS, or stability control. There's nothing more perfect for me this side of a Lotus Elise. I'm bouncing off the walls. And frequently, as I learn to drive it properly, the rev limiter.

I spent much of today baiting boy racers in their tunermobiles. Does that make me a bad Growler?

I'm not telling Alan and Paul either, I want to hear Paul squeal when he sees it. Shhhh!!

errr... I doubt it. But in case you're insane and/or deluded, I will gladly challenge you to a race. Or take you for a long, winding and pleasant drive culminating in dinner at a secluded cafe near Riverhead. Just say. 021 303 598.

It is a well-known scientific fact and law of physics that red cars go faster than other ones. Geeez, a petrol head like - I thought you'd know that! ;-)
Love to come for a drive and dinner one day.

Excuse me, but is it faster than an Nissan Cefiro? More desireable than a Nissan Cefiro? does it suit me more than..well, ANY other car? I do think so, YES...

(oooh, you just wait till I get down there to slap you... sir.)

Ummmm.. well my new XR8 arrives this week.. does that count?

[identity profile] growler-south.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it most definitely does. I did wonder what you boys were going to replace the BMW with, and this makes sense.

I should warn you though that my new car is faster than an XR8... but I'll let you boys win in exchange for.. well, you get the idea ;-)))

*lower lip wobbles* I miss my MR2 :(

Yummy - can I get a ride sometime?

[identity profile] growler-south.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course! Was yours this shape or the later swoopier shape? I can take you for a drive in either model... :-)

[identity profile] debxena.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine was the later version (the yellow Wench - that was possibly before I met you), but Paul, my ex, had the same version as you, which is what began my love affair with the wee beasties :)

Two of my friends still have the later models, so would really love a drive in the older one if possible!

Ooh, very nice. AFAIK, that model was never available in the US (although I think it was possible to add the supercharger yourself without too much struggle; I might be confused, though), so I'm a wee bit jealous. But I have a new(ish) car to play with (and I can actually put four people and luggage in mine, nyah), so I can't complain.

Actually, for the only time in recorded history, the US was the only market outside of Japan to get the cool version of a car. In this case, the supercharged AW11 MR2. Of course the US version was strangled down to 140hp, but it was still very fast!

Shhh. I can't afford temptation right now.
