The 'R' word

growler_southDecay was to be expected in a 20 year old car, and the MR2, it turns out, is no exception. An effort to realign the driver's door (sagged a touch over its 200,000km) saw me removing the front guard, then the door, and then noticing the large pile of leaves and dirt that had collected in one hidden corner of the wheel well. Piles of leaves and dirt in a car are never a good thing, and this particular pile has done it's worst to the metal beneath. Eeek!
Luckily this car was built by clever Mr Toyota, who saw fit to include drain holes and primer between the outer cosmetic panel (the one that now sports a 2" square rust hole) and the inner structural panels. The inner panels are untouched, phew!
A bit of grinding, some etch primer and a splodge of bog and it should be as good as new. Better, even, as I'm going to cut a big hole in the plastic panel which catches all those leaves. Never again!
And then, of course, I have to check the other side. Eeeek!
