He cwazy.

I first had Metronidazole (Flagyl) to treat Helicobacter Pylori, way back in 1994 when the link between H.Pylori and stomach ulcers was still tenuous in the minds of most family doctors. I remember the bad metallic taste and constant hangover-like headache, but what I dont recall is just how stark, raving bonkers it makes me.

I remember now, because I am an elephant. Or a duck. And I'm halfway through a course.

Ok, so its not quite *that* bad, but I'm full of bitchy snappy retorts, I go into rooms to do stuff and forget what it was I was doing (or go into the wrong room completely), and I get halfway through something and

Thank god I only have a few days left. Work tomorrow night is going to be FUN! And I cant drink either, as metronidazole is a fantastic aldehyde dehydrogenase inhibitor.

See? I can remember 'aldehyde dehydrogenase inhibitor', but not why I'm typing this with my toothbrush in my mouth. I was probably going to brush my teeth. I'm at my desk at work. What is my toothbrush even DOING here?!?

*sigh*

Metronidazole is the worst. I had that, Ciprofloxacin and one other big, broad and nasty antibiotic when I was suffering through acute peritonitis after my colon ruptured from diverticulitis. All three were administered intraveinously at that. It ruined my mind and my taste buds for the longest time.

I've heard that about metronidazole; heck, I think that was partly why my dad was so out of it when he had pneumonia, etc. earlier this year.

Still - there are a few things for which it's the Silver Bullet, and very little else will do. In a warped sort of way the side effects are a good thing, in that I think they keep doctors from over-prescribing it.

I've had flagyl and cipro both, flagyl was the worst. Glad yer almost done with it.

A friend ended up on Flagyl after a trip to Africa. She ended up basically not sleeping the whole time she was taking it because it gave her insane, horrific nightmares. A toothbrush at work is quaint by comparison.
