I agree that he's a total woof - and if those are rubber treads I really don't see a problem. It's bureaucratic bullshit - I read the article, he talks about using the machine to do things with his kids in places a standard power chair can't go, like the beach. He's NOT talking about taking it to the market or the like as some dimwit commenter brought up.
Of course, I look at something like this from the perspective that if something like this really helps someone with a physical challenge, the rest of us should be willing to put up with a little inconvenience since that pales in comparison to what someone (in this case) who must use a wheelchair has to put up with.
