In between errands today I went motorbike shopping. Mmmm bikes... I think when I've finished paying off my laptop I'll treat myself to a Honda CB250 Hornet.

Reviews claim it's sporty and handles well, but is upright enough that you dont get a bad back on longer journeys. I like the way it looks with its fat rear tyre, supposedly the same size as on the larger CB600.

And apart from that its been a productive day. I finished the front suspension on the new Piazza, now just to do the rear and look at the bodywork...

Date: 2005-02-19 09:11 am (UTC)Heck, I learned to ride on a CB250. Here in the States, Honda cuts a special deal with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation to give them small displacement Honda motorcycles cheap or free, so most Americans learn to ride on Hondas.

70kg, post botty-problem. A 250 is plenty fast enough for me... :-)
And who makes a 250 that isnt japanese? apart from those clever italians. Hmm now theres a thought, a nice Aprilia or Ducati...

Date: 2005-02-19 09:46 am (UTC)Honda finally retired their ancient, bulletproof air-cooled CB250 engine?
Sweet!

Date: 2005-02-19 10:00 am (UTC)The only problem is how it looks: most forums are full of guys caliming it looks as good as a Hornet, anda new one cost as much as a 2nd-hand hornet, but I jsut dont see it. The detailing is clumsy, the exposed frame should never have been exposed, and the tail is all wrong. Plus its got a couple of cylinders missing... for a small bike, of course. Wouldnt want to disparage V-twins in present company ;-)

Date: 2005-02-21 06:38 pm (UTC)Can't say that I know much about 250s (other than the Aprilia that the kid down the street has, which sounds like a handful of bumblebees in a tin can and would be great fun for someone half my size), as here we just let new bikers ride any ridiculous thing they want. Makes for some truly amusing (and frightening) viewing at dealers.

Date: 2005-02-21 09:04 pm (UTC)I kinda like 250s, the sporty ones are highly-tuned and give 400's a run for their money, plus theyre lighter and more chuckable. I appreciate handling over speed and power, though the Hornet still has a top speed of 110mph...
