Grass Valley living

This is beer country living at its finest...
Brent and Eric have the most wonderful place in the valley- a cool irrigation stream to soak in, plenty of space to relax, a gorgeous house with all the facilities and plenty of supplies. I have just had the most wonderful weekend of my life, relaxing with friends new and old, enjoying the fine hospitality of the Bears Gone Wild Ranch and surrounds. Days soaking in the pool, watching atrocious movies (Showgirls. Fantastic.) eating fine food and drinking. Oh the drinking. Yee-hah! I managed to fall on my nose in the dark (whump! clatter! Crunch! *ow*) and it still hurts a little, but its largely the same shape so I dont mind...

I was even still in a good mood this afternoon when we headed back to the city and checked in to the bed-n-breakfast, which is literally 2 doors down from Starbears. Once we'd checked in, Robbie took us to an intimate party with 3 lovely bears and their friends- a great space and lovely atmosphere. Robbie then took us to the Eagle and the Lonestar for the sunday beer bust- so very crowded, not nearly so pretty as the private party, and it sudenly reminded me that I'm back in the city...

It took all my resolve to send Robbie back to Napa on his own. I have things to do here- I have to meet Gregorbehr tomorrow for a fun day out of the city, then beastbriskett on tuesday for a small bike tour around, wednesday who knows and thursday Erich arrives... Sometimes we just have to be grown-ups and do whats expected to get the rewards we deserve.

I'm about to be a grown-up and go to sleep until tomorrow.

I think we're doing Alcatraz on Wednesday but since we're staying 2 doors down from Starbears we'll be around in the morning or the afternoon (depends which time the tour leaves)

I'm enjoying large parts of this trip, to be sure. I have met some wonderful people that I'm proud to call friends, and I'd return in an instant to see them.

I'll be staying out of the city as much as possible though. This is not my place.

I've been fortunate to travel many places, and never have I found any other place that I would want to call home but here. It took me 30 years to get here and while it costs me a lot financially, I wouldn't trade being here for anything... sorry you haven't found my home town to your liking.

I had a feeling SF might have that kind of effect on you. Though filled with a great deal many wonderful people and interesting things to see, it can be a very overwhelming place and like anywhere has its downsides and upsides (those in turn affect every person uniquely). It's not for everybody. Haul your happy ass back out to the valley already and I'll be along shortly! ;o)

I am assuming that is where we are spending most of the time but I'm sure we'll be in town some too. Maybe we can all have Sunday brunch or something before our flights leave? It's completely up to Grant - it's his holiday. ;o) I'm just along for the ride. Would be nice to meet you as well!

I am a big fan of the slower, more relaxing moments. I get sensory-overloaded too easily. North of the bay suits my taste just fine. Though I have to say I was wide-eyed and gawky in the city, too, clipping along at a Southern rube's pace.

For some reason, this post made me want to winter out there. (As if I am from a class who could ever winter.

Oh you'd winter just fine in the dry rolling hills of wine country. Someplace with a vista, a fireplace and a bookshelf. And a fuzzy blanket.

I know it would suit me to pieces.
