Aug. 21st, 2008 12:30 pmDamn climate change! Somehow Seattle has changed from being a warm tropical wonderland to being rainy, grey and overcast. Brian's quite confused and insists that it's not normal for Seattle "at this time of year". I blame global warming.
So instead of gamboling in the sunshine, we've locked ourselves in the garage and replaced the chain and sprockets on Brian's Magna. THis involved numerous trips on the freeway during rush hour, in the rain, to buy chain, sprockets, new chain breaker tool, and the correct sized chain. Overall, 2 days of planning and 2 days of work.
It really did need doing- the final leg of our trip back from Lewis and Clark was punctuated by the locked sections of chain going 'clunk clunk clunk', and when we took the side cover off the front sprocket looked more like a circular saw blade than a sprocket. A circular saw blade embedded in black greasy gunk flecked with chunks of shredded cloth and human flesh, that is.

Snaggle-toothed sprockets-R-Us

Brian puts some recent experience to good use. Not pictured: tub of lithium grease, red hanky.
Now it's time to go ride the bike around and enjoy the smooth new chain. As long as it doesnt rain any more.
