Bit of a strange weekend here. A quiet beer at bears night on friday ended up with us 'helping' Loren close up at 3am, and then a few more at Family bar. Apparently it was my idea to drag home the big beefy samoan lad- something apparently confirmed by the messages I sent to Alan and Paul before doing so. At least Erich has something to use as leverage now. Well, something more.

Saturday I had to go to work- something that didnt happen until late in the day, unsurprisingly. We're under a nasty deadline- end of the week- and there's about a month worth of work to do. Yikes! Still, thee xtra half day this weekend has put us ahead a lot, nothing to worry about. Until...

Today. The infamous power cut. I had *just* finished cutting my hair when the power went out, taking all the RCDs in the house with it. Clearly a serious problem, and I pity anyone who was touching an earthed metal device at the time! I finished my shower in the dark and trundled up the hill to work. Which was, unsurprisingly, cold, dark, and quiet. We sat around for about an hour calling friends at distant locations, mapping the extent of the outage (Papakura to as far noth as you cared to quess, but not in Ranui, strangely.)

Eventually we went home. News reports of congested motorways and traffic light-less mayhem filtered through the cellphone network, convincing me to pop in to see Paul. Well, that and he had access to the cafe's gas stoves. Plunger coffee, Mmmmm.... I borrowed his car and made a mercy dash home to rescue Erich. (note to self: for dodging through traffic, avoiding natural-disaster scale rain and stupidity, you can't beat a tiny 4WD pocket rocket with a giant engine. But should the traction control light be flickering *that* much?) After much cajoling, encouragement, and stealing all the covers on teh bed Erich was up and we returned to Pauls to find coffee brewing over a candle on the stove. How romanianantic.

The power came back on at 1pm with a happy twinkle of chirping appliances, telling me my day was about to get frantic. Oh hell yes. I'm still at work, having placated the bear with promises of Wendy's when I get home.

We didn't get power back until 4:30 out this end of town.

Bummer being at work so late!

Well the phone went ballistic at around 8.24am this morning.
"the power is out in our tennancy, what is wrong, what are you doing about it?"
"The car park is too dark even with the emergencylights can you fix it?"
"How long will the power be out?'
"Why didn't Samson Corp put in emergency generators?"
"The lift is not working either?"
"Will the cafe be open?"
"Our Phones are not working either"

I did ask one woman "When did I become 'The Almighty'?
Others I was polite as possible.
Well just.

Some of these people earn in excess of $100k pa too.

No wonder we will be F--ked if there is a real Disaster!!
