Why I like this little country.

Underwear night at Urge was popular as ever, and I had a great time balancing the bouncer and greeter parts of my door duties (which means I snogged when I had the chance, but kept my eyes open for miscreants trying to sneak past the line ;-)) Photos coming soon. All good things have to end though, and my cheerful mood came to an abrupt stop when someone decided that their foul mood needed a verbal punching bag, and I ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Normally I would appreciate that someone's stressed and needs to vent, and that harmless venting is a good thing, but I had a few gin and tonics under my belt by that stage and my reaction has since been described as "less than gracious, but satisfyingly appropriate". Ah. Apologies were made and all is forgiven, but I still needed to get myself back in a good mood.
So today was all about me, my car, and a lot of petrol. Claiming to be hungover and bedridden gave me space for a drive to Karangahake for a swim in the river, then back to Whatipu near Auckland to watch the sun set over the sea. This is why I love living here- the light is astonishing. Sharp blue sunlight at lunchtime turns to strong gold near sunset, and everything is green and gold. Sounds: it's dead quiet except for the songs and movement of a million small, harmless animals. Feel: the biting cold mountain river where I grew up, the hot black sand of Whatipu, dry crunchy grass on the dunes.
I didnt get any photos from Karangahake, but here's a few from Whatipu for y'all..

And here's a couple of MP3s I made- waves rushing and birds cheeping while I sat in the sand dunes.

Yes, I need to get me some webspace for hosting files.
Result: 350km on the car, sunburn on the outside of my head, and happy, peaceful thoughts on the inside. Next time I'd like to share all this with someone though. Any volunteers?
