If this all sounds a bit like a school report, its probably because I feel like a kid again. Today we went on a tour of the elephant farm, bridge on the river Kwai, the death railroad, and a bamboo raft. *bounce* Touristy things Yay!!

First up we had to be ready at 7.30. Last night was a late one and we were feeling more than a little vague, although I still managed to feel sorry for the housemaid who had to make up our room- our night of drunken debauchery left the towels somewhat worse for wear.

30 or so tourists packed onto a tourbus and we were off. First stop, the bridge over the river Kwai. There were surprisingly few hawkers selling dodgy postcards, so we got to walk across the bridge in peace. And on the other side of the bridge was... Elephants!! A full-size mother elephant and her baby. So cute!!! we fed them fruit and scratched their heads, I think I want one. And yet again a local wanted to have his picture taken with us, very odd...

Next stop was at the river, where we boarded a couple of bamboo rafts and started downstream. Our confidence in the rafts was not helped when the man with the paddle slipped and fell in the river... I finally got to see the quiet, green, tropical Thailand and, apart from all the plants and animals being a bit different, it was surprisingly like New Zealand. Eventually we came to the elephant farm, and it was off the rafts and onto the backs of elephants.

True to form, Kevin ended up on the raging bull elephant and so missed the 5-legged spectacle going on beneath him. The 2 american girls in our group, however, couldnt stop giggling and taking photographs... Elephants arent particularly comfortable to ride when you're strapped into a big steel seat. The mahout had the best seat, riding on the elephants kneck, and made pretty hats for us out of leaves. Watching the baby elephant swimming was funny- it would thrash about until it remembered that it could just walk on the bottom and breathe through its trunk.
