Curious midnight thought of the day:

If a deaf person goes mad, do they hear voices?

No, I'm serious, if you've never heard anything do you still get auditory hallucinations? And would you recognise them if you did? And am I thinking about this WAY too much?

Luckily, Damiel's answer was "I dont know, but what a good question!", which means he's not mad. Well, he seems fond of me so he's clearly not *entirely* sane, but at least he's not hearing voices. Or whatever it is he would hear.

Me, I'd love to know what a deaf person's experience of language is like. I can't imagine language not having a sound to it, you know?

I can imagine an extension of the concept-thought I use when thinking about nonverbal communications- body language, expressions, pictograms, numbers/math and the like. Come to think of it if I listen to music while I'm typing I tend to think in written words rather than sounds- if I'm moving my lips its because I'm singing along to the music :-)

Oliver Sacks wrote a fascinating book about the deaf community some years back called "Seeing Voices."

Whuuuut?! Bitch, you gotta fan club.

And he looks ok... but his beard is completely inadequate. Have him work on that. Though I suppose he'll never grow a CSM.
