Today will be expensive.



That's a knock sensor off a 4AGZE. It's not normally in two pieces like that. Toyota retail: $360. Aftermarket retail: are you mad? I'm not replacing a critical part, one that stops my engine from melting its own pistons, with an aftermarket part.



That's my phone, primary email and web browsing device, and my digital brain. Come to think of it, that's what my actual brain looked like the other night, but it seemed to have put itself together by morning. Not so with this wee beastie. Replacement (shiny, updated, smaller, better, faster, more replacement): $400.

ow ow ow ow ow.

Oh, and in case you're wondering? Yes, the phone did break when I put it in my pocket along with the broken knock sensor. You can laugh now- I know I am.

I simply cant get over how much simple Toy parts cost you over there. A knock sensor would cost me (with the garage discount) less than half that price. Not sure what exchange rates are here vs there, but still. Ow is right.

I got it for $130 in the end, thanks to trade discount. Though I did wonder what the price would be if I told him it was from a 10-year old Trueno rather than a 20-year old MR2...

I think it has somethign to do with stock level as well: the US actually got new supercharged MR2's, whereas in NZ they only came in as second-hand imports. Toyota loves charging a premium on parts for imports- I think it's a kind of punishment for not buying NZ new.
