This evening I exercised. We've got this big gym weight machine thingy out the back, and I figured I'd never really tried exercising before so I gave it a go. Besides I'm about to hit 30, I'd like to think my metabolism will start to slow down soon. Please? (its not looking good though- Dad still burns a billion calories a day at 55, and I take after him...)

That was about an hour ago: now my heart's slowed to a normal pace I dont feel like I'm going to throw up any more, and the sweating has stopped. The shaky hands are making typing a bit difficult but I presume that will pass as well.

Gym bunnies: Is this the bit where I have a protein shake and 'hit the showers' where I end up having sex with other sweaty men? I hope not, the only other man in the house is Andrew and, although cute, he's straight. For now I'm going to presume the shower thing only happens in movies and, if I'm worng, I'll make up for it when I exercise next month.

Anyway, I feel fantastic. I've done something positive for my health, and I'm going to sleep like a log. My muscles dont even hurt either, I really dont know what all the fuss is about.

Well, firstly, go on you for starting.
Now, the bad news. Think the first work out was hard? Well, try the 2nd, or 3rd, or better yet, the 154th. It gets physically easier, but the motivation gets harder. Stick to it though.

And you are stretching well before and after, arent you?

Yes, Im stretching before, doing 10 or so very light reps to get me warmed up, then a few heavy ones- being careful not to strain anything and to keep my balance.

Im not sure I have the motivation to become a muscle mary- Im really not all that concerned about my body. I get a bit skinny when I forget to eat but I dont lose any sleep over it.

We shall see, I might do the workout thing again next week if its not too cold outside.

Come to think of it, I was wondering what that noise was....

Try some Deep Heat or Tiger Balm if you have them in NZ
