"You wouldn't steal a car..."
No, but genuine cars don't make me sit there with the alarm blaring for 5 minutes before it lets me use any controls. Nor does it attempt to stop me from buying insurance in case my car gets damaged or stolen.
If a car did that, you can bet your ass I'd want a copied one rather than a genuine one.
"You wouldn't steal a handbag..."
Of course not. Unless it was *really* pretty. But that's another story. As far as I know, handbags don't lock you out for 5 minutes while lecturing you on how bad it is to steal handbags every time you want to get to your purse or cellphone.
If a handbag did that, I'd sure as hell want a copied one.
Hell, if genuine handbags were as disappointing and expensive as, say, hollywood movies, I'd definitely look for a ripoff handbag first.
Poor Hollywood. They really don't get the concept that they have to outcompete the pirates with quality and features, and that making cheaper movies and locking them away behind antipiracy nag screens is the exact *opposite* of what people will pay for.

Date: 2009-01-11 09:14 pm (UTC)A movie is owned by a huge, faceless corporation. There would be no emotional distress suffered by it. I would happily steal a movie.
