Well, that was weird. I mean, the whole office/work/cubicles/lunchbreaks thing is foreign and bizarre enough, but doing it all while the sun is up is just too strange.

I'll probably get used to it though, mainly because the company is pretty damn awesome and the people I'm working with fun and friendly. Again, though, the office camaraderie is something I've only seen on TV, where it always seemed a little overdone. Finding it alive and well and out in the real world has me off balance.

It's a whole new culture, and I just hope I get used to it before I start laughing hysterically.

Oh! And on Wednesday I'm going to a training seminar about how to deal with upset customers. Apparently it's by someone described as a "hands-on motivational speaker" who is "a heap of fun".

I think I know what that means, and I'm scared. I hope I'm wrong...

OK.
Rule 1 of adaptation. Don't stay after work to fuck a customer at this job.
Rule 2. Don't yell "Anyone want to get laid tonight" at this job.
Rule 3. Don't suggest underwear parties at work.

I would think that years of tending bar would have you well prepared for dealing with upset customers. So find out just how "hands on" motivated this speaker is. hehehe....

Yeah, office culture is different than anything else in this world but it can be learned eventually. I was exposed to it later in life than some and it took awhile to figure it out. I remember seeing cartoons and movies set in such a world and didnt' get a lot of the jokes. I might now though.

It's still weird and all but you'll learn it. Just don't take it as reality.

Can you arrange for a complicated medical procedure for that day?

Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.

Or try gin beforehand.

"hands-on motivational speaker" who is "a heap of fun".....

Well, it was nice knowing you... hopefully you'll still remember who we are after you've drunk the kool-aid.

Hands-on, eh? I would expect it comes naturally to ya.
As for the office culture, just keep the guffaws for after work, if you can stifle them that long. Glad to hear the place is friendly!

Cubicle thing

Did it for two years. Enough. Some seem to take to it. Good luck.
