Bears night was more fun than ever, theres simply not enough time to give everyone a good snog. Off to Urge later and a couple of nice cigars out the back, finally met Brett and Wolf after a couple of years of chatting on the net- theyre a lovely couple, as well as being sexy as all hell.

This morning it was up early and off to Hamilton to drop Mo's car in for a service, and go shopping for a new car for Rick. The courtesy car we had was a manual 323i, and I was expecting it to be much like Mo's 325i only faster. It *was* faster, but the standard suspension had me lurching all over the road, the seats were far too soft and unsupportive, and the steering was a bit vague. It appears that not all 3-series cars are made equal, and Mo's 325i is a superb example.

However we were shopping for Rick, and we were looking for a 528i. After seeing a number of nice, but un-cared for imports, we came across this:

This one was in great condition. Still had all the original keys, including the plastic emergency key, everything working and clean, original paint (not a quick respray like most dealers do- not even a stone-chip touchup job.) Electric rear blind, leather, stereo and all the toys, original equipment television/ trip computer, tinted windows, rain sensor wipers, electric seats, auto-dipping mirror- a very classy car. But the real surprise was when we took it for a test drive.

After driving the diappointing 323i, I was expecting it to be comfortable, though perhaps a little soft and sluggish. I couldnt have been more wrong. It drives and handles *exactly* like Mo's car, except it accelerates harder and the suspension lacks the harshness over bumps. I couldnt believe how good this car was to drive. I had been worried that Mo might be upset if we traded his car and got something softer and more comfort oriented, but the 528i was so incredibly similar to drive that I cant see him complaining.

Oh and the best bit? the electric memory seats have THREE memories...

So we've found our new car. Its a 528. Now we just need Morris to come home and take him joy, er, I mean TEST driving and its ours...

I used to work for BMW in San Francisco. The experience was unforgettable. I have always been drawn to BMW's. That cut-away front end and that elegant Hoffmeister Kink.

Beneath the taught, athletic, yet conservative skin, there is a gem of an engine, whether it is their unstoppable series of inline sixes, their burgeoning family of V8's, or their new and improved big V12. For the longest time I was a die-hard enthusiast of their inline6, that was until I got to drive both the previous generation M5 AND the Z8!!! see: http://www.bmwworld.com/media/pictures_z8.htm
My only trepidation with this company is that once the warranty is up things could get very expensive. Seems like a lot of people are willing to put up with that since the driving experience is so rich and viscerally fulfilling.
Congrats on yr new car!
I'm just a bit jealous but I won't show it 'cause I'm a gentleman.
