Apr. 15th, 2008 04:56 pmThe ice dispenser in the freezer at home routinely freezes up- NZ is remarkably humid for such a cold country, and thigs that work fine in drier climes can have icing issues here. Like chairlifts on ski resorts, which have to be modified to work reliably here.
Anyway, the wee electric motor in the fridge gets ice in it and wont start, which means pulling it out, defrosting it with a hairdryer, and popping it back in. It's a pain.
Today I had a brainwave. All I have to do is hold the dispenser lever until the jammed motor heats up enough to melt the ice, and it'll start turning again. There's little chance of overheating it, since it's in a freezer, and the excess heat will go into melting the ice rather than burning out the windings.
The odd thing is that I had this revelation while mopping the floor at the bar- nothing at all to do with ice, freezers, or home. Damn subconscious.
