I hereby decree the recently-coined 'Binogamous' to be superseded by the term 'Duogamous', lest the inclusion of the prefix 'Bi-' imply a touch of bisexuality.

That is all, go about your business.

Perhaps a little clarification: last weekend we were struggling with the incongruity of using 'monogamous' to describe a sexually-exclusive 3-way relationship. We decided that the participants couldnt really be called monogamous and a new word, Binogamous, was needed.

Hmmm...duogamous implies only two and though this may be more accurate for some, I find that those who stray don't just stray to one - perhaps one at a time but not one only. Maybe multogamous.
According to Thesaurus.com, multi suggests:
Definition: complex
Synonyms: advanced, complicated, delicate, elaborate, highly-developed, intricate, involved, knotty, labyrinthine, modern, multi-faceted, refined, subtle
Antonyms: naive, unsophisticated

I kind of like how "multi" suggests a kind of snootiness.

What about "metronogamous"? Would this imply someone who looks monogamous for fashion's sake but isn't really?

Ah, but when you're in a sexually exclusive 3-way 'binogamous' is perfect...

Does that mean a couple who plays exclusively with only one other couple?

I can see you have done your homework- after all, a 4-way is the new 3-way, and 3-ways are the new single... but I was strugling for a term for an exclusive 3-way.

Well, OK. But what would you call it if you had...say...two couples and a long-haired biker?

Not at all! It was merely pointed out to me by one member of a sexually-exclusive triple that the 'bi' in 'binogamous' was ambiguous.

Once I get my paws on each other I doubt we'll have time for anyone else anyway... for a long while at least!

That's sort of like 'hemigamous' meaning that one partner is monogamous and the other is not.

one partner... and the other...
Excuse me, but your preconceptions are showing ;-)

a triple requires different terms for the same concepts. Duogamous is a 'monogamous' built for three.

You could use 'polyfidelious' - a poly term to describe a closed multi-person relationship.

I should have known the Polys would have a term already... thanks! :-)

That, or implying somebody hiding behind a gap in his curtains with a pair of binoculars watching people going at it.

Can't you just say "doubly monogamous"?
